NYSC Turns 50 As DG Insists On National Unity, Development
NYSC DG, Brigadier General YD Ahmed addressing some Corps members Nigeria’s foremost compulsory national duty call, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), turned 50 years after its creation in 1973. The Corps was established soon after the country’s civil war by the military federal government to foster national unity, tolerance, understanding, and peaceful coexistence. Its creation was also to heal the wound created by the civil war which lasted approximately three years. The Director General of the Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed while addressing members at the NYSC Cross River State Orientation Camp in Obubra and at Ebonyi State Orientation Camp in Afikpo, advised participants to make use of the opportunities of the service year to contribute to the unity and socio-economic development of Nigeria.
