Senate Presidency: Ndume Gives Update On Backstage Politicking

*****Say He Warned Senators Not To Collect Money from Aspirants

*****APC Zones Senate, HoR Top Offices

 Senator Ali Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume (APC Borno South) on Monday gave an update on the backstage politicking that influenced the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) decision to zone the coveted Senate President to the South-South.

He revealed that efforts were made to dissuade lawmakers from collecting financial inducements as motivation for pitching their tents with aspirants for the seat.

Ndume narrated his disappointment when a Senator called him asking to know what the Borno South lawmaker and Chairman of the Committee of the Upper Chamber on Army wanted.

“Senators are men of integrity and so I have told them not to collect money from any aspirant. Even though I heard that money has changed hands, nobody has approached me to say that he would give him money.

I was the first among the contestants who indicated an interest in writing that I wanted to be Senate President, with a 10-point agenda and this agenda are things that I feel if we make it our programme in the 10th Senate it will bring back integrity to the Senate”.

He however applauded the nomination of Senator Godswill Akpabio by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Senate President for the 10th Senate.

The APC had in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Felix Morka, announced a zoning arrangement for the offices of the Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

In the statement, the party endorsed Senator Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom, South-South) for Senate President and Senator Barau Jibrin (Kano, North West) for the office of the Deputy Senate President.

And for the House of Representatives, it endorsed Hon. Abass Tajudeen (Kaduna) for the office of the Speaker, with Hon. Ben Kalu (Abia, South East) endorsed to deputize him.
